Why is Empty Bowls my favorite ?…

First off the important details:

  • When: Saturday March 7, 2020 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Where: Chapel Hill Church 7700 Skansie Ave, Gig Harbor, WA 98335

My #1 reason why this event is my favorite:

Empty Bowls is a very unique event bringing together local artists, restaurants and community volunteers. Your dollars from this event help feed children… yes, we really do have hungry kids in Gig Harbor. Six years ago the Altrusa Organization discovered a gap in assistance to low-income kids. These children rely on school meals and when school is out- no school no food.  In past years, proceeds from Empty Bowls funded 4,000 summer lunches for 800 kids in the Peninsula School District. That is a Wow!

Reason #2 for attending is selfish but fun:

  • Local Art– clay, glass and wood artists have donated one-of-a-kind bowls for you to purchase at a reasonable price. This bowl will gently remind you that you helped feed our children. Click here to see the artists.
  • Come hungry- Local restaurants donate specialty soup. These soups are the best I have ever eaten! They all try to outdo each other with the tastiest creations. You’ll want to try them all but no way… choose to fill your tummy carefully. Flash news, I just learned that Taylor Shellfish Farms is making Geoduck Chowder and if you like a little kick, try the Louisiana Chicken & Sausage Gumbo from JT’s Smoking’ BBQ….. and many more to choose from.

This year Empty Bowls is bigger and better, being held in the gym area of Chapel Hill Church. Parking will not be a problem and remember it is FREE to attend. You better plan on getting there early (Opens at 11am) to have a great choice of bowls. I challenge you to give more by doubling the price of your bowl!

Thanks to Altrusa that hosts Empty Bowls and many thanks to the sponsors and for the donations of art and soup by folks right here in our community.

If you want to volunteer in your community and give back…. you need to look at Altrusa- Click here for more details. They care for Gig Harbor and have fun doing it.
