The Greater Gig Harbor Foundation has always focused on assisting to feed families in the Greater Gig Harbor area, but they are taking it to a whole new level with their year-round Community Harvest Project. I had no idea of the need. Did you know?…
- 1 in 4 children in the Peninsula Schools meets federal criteria for free or reduced lunches.
- 1 in 7 adults in our community struggle with hunger.
How is GGHF helping? Funds raised and food donated to this project go to partnerships with the Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH food bank, Food Backpacks for Kids and to the Gig Harbor Basket Brigade.
How can you help?
The latest project is the Crockpot Meals Program. Displays have been placed in businesses all around the area with bright yellow tubs for food donations. They are looking for specific foods to make a nutritious crockpot meal that will feed a family (*see list below). In addition to providing crockpot food they are creating a crockpot recipe book. Do you have a favorite crockpot recipe that would be fun to add? Your recipe may even win a prize. Here is the downloadable entry form: Recipe Contest Entry Form . Attach your recipe and email it to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Of course if you can’t donate food or a recipe a cash donation is always welcome. Here is that link. Also they are always in need of volunteers. Use the email above if you can help.
You really need to know about the GGHF and all they do for your community. Here is a snapshot of what they do.
Remember they need the food donations to come in all year round. Watch for those yellow tubs at banks, grocery stores, schools and other areas throughout the harbor.
